Frequently Asked Questions - Resident Meal Plan
How do I select a meal plan?
The easiest way to select a meal plan is to go online to campusdining.org and click on Meal Plans -> Manage Your Plan. You can also purchase a meal plan by going to the Meal Plan Office in the Stony Brook Union, Suite 250 or at the Seawolves MarketPlace in the Student Activities Center.
Do you offer summer meal plans?
Summer meal plans are offered each summer. For the most current information on summer meal plans, and to sign-up go to campusdining.org.
Are there any meal plan requirements as a resident student?
All undergraduate students who reside in the residence halls, who are in their first or second semester of enrollment at Stony Brook, are required to enroll in a resident meal plan, regardless of the residence hall in which they reside. A resident student regardless of class year is also required to be on a meal plan if they live in a non-cooking building or area which is also considered a mandatory meal plan building.
What are the meal plans that are offered to students who are required to be on a meal plan?
The following plans are available to resident students who are required to be on a meal plan:
BRONZE Plan: $1801/Semester 878 Campus Points, 400 Flex Credits 523 Operating Expense
SILVER Plan: $1913/Semester 990 Campus Points, 400 Flex Credits 523 Operating Expense

Does my meal plan rollover from semester to semester?
Resident meal plans do not roll over from the fall to the spring or from the spring to the summer. Commuter meal plans will carry over from the fall to the spring semester but not to summer sessions or to the following academic year. In the spring, you will automatically be placed on the same meal plan that you selected in the fall.
Why don’t Campus Points and Flex Credits roll over from semester to semester with resident meal plans?
When too many points are left over at the end of the semester, the dining facilities become overcrowded at a time when many students have to eat quickly between exams. Not rolling over from fall to spring is intended to help reduce the number of unspent points and excess overcrowding in the spring.
Is there a minimum amount I have to spend per week if I have a resident meal plan?
Students on a resident meal plan must spend a minimum of 40 Campus Points every two weeks. The unused point balance will be forfeited at the close of business every other Wednesday. Your last opportunity to spend your unused point balance is at the Stony Brook Union and Kelly Deli until 3am on Thursday morning.
When do I have to use all of my meal plan funds by?
All Residential meal plans end at the end of each fall (1/1/12) & spring (05/18/12) semester. All funds left on the meal plan after the respective end date will be forfeit.
How do I get a meal plan waiver if I do not want to be on a resident meal plan?
Meal Plan enrollment may be waived on a religious or medical basis only. Request for a waiver must be made in writing to the Campus Dining nutritionist. You can contact her at 632-9979. This must be done prior to, or within two weeks of, moving on campus. Those residents who obtain a meal plan waiver will be required to reside in or relocate to a residence hall/area designated as cooking. A pro-rated weekly charge for meal plan will result until such time as a waiver is obtained. Any dietary concerns should be directed to the Campus Dining Services Nutritionist at 632-9979.
Do I have to select a meal plan every semester?
All meal plans selected are ANNUAL agreements. Changes and cancellations must be made in writing to the meal plan office at 250 Stony Brook Union, Stony Brook, NY 11794-3209, or via the Campus Dining website www.campusdining.org.
What if I move off campus or withdraw/graduate from the University?
Because this is an annual agreement, student who withdraw/graduate from the University, or wish to cancel their meal plan because they moved off campus or to a building/area designated as cooking, must notify the Meal Plan Office. Otherwise the student will be charged the full amount of the meal plan.
